The administration of Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), the central university in Delhi, is set to increase the tuition fee significantly in the next academic session. Around 19 per cent to 41 per cent increase in fees is expected in the 2025-26 session, ANI reported citing prospectus of the upcoming year and comparing it with that of the previous year. Significant revisions and sharpest hikes were observed in humanities, social sciences, and science courses. Notably, these curses are traditionally considered more affordable. President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday appointed Mazhar Asif as the vice chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia, according to Union Ministry of Education officials. Asif is currently a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University’s (JNU) School of Languages. “The president, in her capacity as the visitor of Jamia Millia Islamia, has appointed Professor Mazhar Asif, School of Languages, JNU, as the vice chancellor of Jamia for five years from the date on which he enters upon his office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier,” a ministry official said. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday announced the 9th edition of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2024. The NIRF Rankings, released annually, assess and rank higher education institutions in India based on various criteria. In the NIRF Rankings 2024, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru has topped university rankings, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi.   Here are top 10 universities, according to the NIRF Rankings 2024: 

Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI), the central university in Delhi, has commenced its admission process for various distance and online programmes for the academic year 2024-25 (September). The Centre for Distance and Online Education (CDOE) issued a notice on August 1 inviting applicants to register for the programmes.  Online application forms became available on the official website at www.jmicoe.in, as stated in the notice dated August 1. The central university will accept registrations until August 31, after which the online application portal will close, and no further application forms will be entertained, said the notice.
