IIT Madras Launches BTech Programme in AI and Data Analytics

New Delhi: Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has announced the launch of its first BTech program in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics starting from the academic year 2024-25. According to officials from IIT Madras, the course will have 50 seats, and admissions will be based on the JEE entrance examination. The program will emphasize math fundamentals, data science, AI and machine learning foundations, application development, and responsible design.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics Course Details and Admission Process

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics BTech program at IIT Madras aims to equip students with specialized knowledge in AI and Data Analytics, preparing them for the demands of modern industries. Admission to the program will be based on the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE), ensuring that only the most qualified candidates are selected. The curriculum will cover a comprehensive range of subjects, including math fundamentals, data science, AI and machine learning foundations, application development, and responsible design.

IIT Madras Director, V. Kamakoti, shared with PTI, “The goal of this Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Data Analytics program is to develop expertise in various aspects of AI and Data Analytics, providing a broad perspective on its applications in industries.” He emphasized that AI is evolving across engineering, science, and humanities, and understanding these interdisciplinary connections is crucial for success in this field.

This course is offered by the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI, established with a generous grant of Rs 110 crore from IIT Madras alumnus and co-founder of iGATE and Mastek Digital, Sunil Wadhwani.

Director Kamakoti emphasized the BTech course’s academic flexibility, which enables students to personalize their education by choosing from a range of elective subjects. This flexibility is vital for exploring applications in speech and language technology, computer vision, and time-series analysis.
