National Testing Agency denies being involved in any hacking amid controversies surrounding NEET-UG and UGC-NET.
New Delhi: The National Testing Agency has recently come under scrutiny due to several controversies surrounding its examinations. The agency has been announcing cancellations of various exams, raising concerns among students and parents. After the cancellation of the scorecards of 1,563 NEET-UG candidates who received grace marks, the UGC-NET 2024 was also annulled a day after it was conducted. Furthermore, the NEET-PG exam scheduled for Sunday, June 23, was cancelled, leading to widespread rumors about the integrity of NTA’s online platforms.
NTA Denies Hacking Allegations
Amid these controversies, the National Testing Agency took to its social media handle on X to refute claims of hacking and tampering with its website and associated web portals. In a statement, the NTA clarified, “The NTA website and all its web portals are fully secure. Any information suggesting that they have been compromised and hacked is wrong and misleading.” This clarification comes in response to the growing concerns and speculations about the integrity of NTA’s online platforms following the recent exam-related disputes.
Formation of a High-Level Committee
In light of these issues, the Ministry of Education (MoE) announced the formation of a high-level committee to recommend improvements in the exam process, data security protocols, and the overall functioning of the NTA. The seven-member committee is led by former ISRO Chairman Dr. K. Radhakrishnan and includes prominent members like former AIIMS Delhi Director Dr. Randeep Guleria. The committee will submit its report to the ministry within the next two months.
Swift Action by the Ministry of Education
The Ministry of Education has taken swift action in response to the NEET-UG and UGC-NET controversies. Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan acknowledged the irregularities during the exams and the failure of the NTA to prevent them. As a result, NTA Director-General Subodh Singh has been removed from his position. Pradeep Singh Kharola, currently the Chairman and Managing Director of the India Trade Promotion Organization (ITPO), will temporarily oversee the NTA until a permanent appointment is made.

NEET and UGC-NET Controversies
The National Testing Agency has been in the spotlight due to the irregularities in the NEET-UG exam, where 1,563 candidates received grace marks, and the subsequent cancellation of the UGC-NET 2024 exam. These issues have led to significant unrest among the examinees. The National Testing Agency decision to cancel the scorecards of candidates who received grace marks and offer a re-test is a step towards maintaining the integrity of the exam process. The re-test for NEET-UG is scheduled for June 23, with results expected before June 30.
Enhancing Exam Integrity
The establishment of the high-level committee aims to restore faith in the examination process. By reviewing and enhancing the security protocols and operational practices of the NTA, the committee’s recommendations will play a crucial role in preventing future controversies. The education community hopes these measures will lead to a more robust and reliable examination system, ensuring fairness for all candidates.
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has expressed gratitude for the swift actions taken concerning the NEET-UG exam controversies. In a statement, the IMA extended thanks to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister J.P. Nadda, and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“We appreciate the Education Ministry for transferring the NEET-UG exam irregularities case to the CBI for a thorough investigation. We are also grateful for the government’s decision to remove the NTA Director-General,” the statement added.
