NEET UG Exam The government on Saturday said a committee has been formed to analyse the issue of irregularities in the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024. The panel will examine whether to hold the exam again or not.
K Sanjay Murthy, Secretary, Department of Higher Education, stated at a press conference in the national capital that the NEET UG 2024 exam was conducted with complete integrity and fairness, addressing the concerns about paper leaks and alleged irregularities.
Replying to query on whether the National Testing Agency (NTA) would conduct the NEET UG 2024 for the second time, Murthy said, “A committee has been formed to analyse the issue of the irregularities. Nearly 23 lakh students appeared in the exam. Of these, only 1,600 candidates who took the exam in six centres have been affected with the controversy. We are still examining on whether to hold the exam again or not. A Grievance Redressal Committee will share the finding post which a decision will be taken.”
“Only one question was challenged this year, which is the least in the history of NEET exams. Revised marks of many students remained in the negative even after compensation of the results. This reflects that compensation of marks have not made any difference in the overall results,” he added.
NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh mentioned that the grace marks given to over 1,500 candidates could possibly be reconsidered. A committee, led by a former UPSC chairman, will provide their recommendations within a week, potentially leading to a revision of the results for these candidates.

The NTA Director General reassured the public that the results were declared transparently after a thorough analysis. He mentioned that the issue was limited to only six out of 4,750 centers, and a small number of around 1,600 out of 24 lakh candidates were affected. He emphasized that the integrity of the exam across the country remained intact, and investigations confirmed that there was no paper leak.
Numerous applicants of the NEET medical entrance exam have come forward accusing the increase in marks, resulting in an unprecedented 67 candidates securing the highest rank, with six of them hailing from the same exam center. The exam took place on May 5, and the provisional answer key was made available on May 29. Finally, the definitive answer key was released on June 4.
