Harvard Cracks Down on Pro-Palestine Group After Funding Threat

(Bloomberg) — Harvard University took disciplinary action against a pro-Palestinian student group for violating campus rules a day after the Trump administration threatened to scrap as much as $9 billion in federal funding for the school over its handling of antisemitism.  The university placed the Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee on probation through June 30, saying it co-sponsored an April 1 rally with unrecognized student groups in which campus entrances were blocked and amplified sound was used. Education Cuts Include Staff Managing English Learning Program

(Bloomberg) — The US Department of Education’s sweeping cuts Tuesday included staff that oversee schools’ efforts to help millions of students learn English. Employees from the Office of English Language Acquisition, or OELA, are being eliminated as part of the Education Department’s reduction in force this week, according to the American Federation of Government Employees Local 252, the union representing the agency’s employees. The wider Education Department cuts aim to eliminate half of its more than 4,000 employees.
