NEW DELHI: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued ‘Guidelines to Provide Equitable Opportunity for the Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups (SEDGs) in the HEIs’. The guidelines are in line with the recommendations of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which puts an emphasis on accessibility, equity, and inclusivity in higher education for socio-economically disadvantaged groups.The Commission recommended that all universities and Higher Education Institutions in the country follow these guidelines in order to improve the educational opportunities of students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.The university body has asked that universities and Higher Education Institutions implement bridge courses, earn-while-learn schemes, and outreach programmes ...
