President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday appointed Mazhar Asif as the vice chancellor of the Jamia Millia Islamia, according to Union Ministry of Education officials. Asif is currently a professor at Jawaharlal Nehru University’s (JNU) School of Languages. “The president, in her capacity as the visitor of Jamia Millia Islamia, has appointed Professor Mazhar Asif, School of Languages, JNU, as the vice chancellor of Jamia for five years from the date on which he enters upon his office or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier,” a ministry official said. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Monday announced the 9th edition of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Rankings 2024. The NIRF Rankings, released annually, assess and rank higher education institutions in India based on various criteria. In the NIRF Rankings 2024, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru has topped university rankings, followed by Jawaharlal Nehru University and Jamia Millia Islamia in New Delhi.   Here are top 10 universities, according to the NIRF Rankings 2024: 

NEW DELHI: Delhi University (DU) has no plans to hold separate PhD entrance exams like Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Vice Chancellor Yogesh Singh on Sunday stated.The DU Vice-Chancellor added that the university is awaiting guidance from the University Grants Commission (UGC).The uncertainty surrounding PhD admissions arose after the Centre cancelled the UGC NET exam, which had been crucial for entry into PhD programs.The UGC NET exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), determines eligibility for teaching positions and PhD admissions.“We have no plans to hold a separate in-house PhD entrance exam. NEW DELHI: The Indian universities demonstrated the highest performance improvement among all the G20 nations this year, a significant 14 per cent year-on-year improvement in their average ranking, according to QS president Nunzio Quacquarelli.The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) was identified as the highest-ranked university in India in the coveted rankings announced by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), the London-based higher education analytics firm.The university was ranked at 20th position globally for development studies.The QS World University Rankings by Subject were announced earlier this month in which IIM-Ahmedabad figured among the top 25 institutions globally for business and management studies while IIM-Bangalore and ...
