New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday directed the National Testing Agency (NTA) to submit a “full disclosure report” detailing the nature of the NEET paper leak to determine whether 2.4 million medical aspirants need to be retested. “If you can not distinguish the grain from the chaff, that is tainted from the un-tainted, then a retest has to be ordered,” said Chief Justice of India D.Y. NTA Director General Subodh Kumar Singh was removed from his position on Saturday and placed on “compulsory wait” in the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT). Pradeep Singh Kharola has been assigned the additional charge of NTA DG. The Ministry of Education constituted a high-level committee of seven experts to ensure transparent, smooth and fair conduct of examinations. The move to form the expert panel came amid controversy over the alleged irregularities in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam 2024. “The committee will make recommendations on reforming the mechanism of the examination process and improving data security protocols and the structure and functioning of NTA [National Testing Agency],” the Ministry of Education said in a press release. Officials of the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the Union education ministry will reportedly be present at the examination centres where the reexamination for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG) will be held this week.
