LUCKNOW: The Allahabad High Court ruled Friday that the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education Act, 2004, is “unconstitutional” and violates the principle of secularism, and ordered the state government to accommodate current students in the formal schooling system. The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has recently taken action against several schools across the country for various malpractices uncovered during surprise inspections. These malpractices included the presentation of dummy students, admission of ineligible candidates, and improper record-keeping. Following a thorough investigation, CBSE has disaffiliated and downgraded several schools.

The Allahabad high court’s Lucknow bench on 21 March declared the Uttar Pradesh Board of Madarsa Education Act, 2004 as ‘unconstitutional’, reported Hindustan Times. The bench also directed the Yogi Adityanath-led State government to accommodate students studying in Madarsas in other schools.
